PROFESSIONAL VERSUS HOME CAR
Q: What’s the right balance between home care and professional care?
A: Home dental care is, of course, critical to maintaining your overall oral health. There are many things you can do at home, like brushing and flossing thoroughly. But anytime you notice or experience anything out of the ordinary, you should turn to the professional care of a dentist. You can examine the inside of your mouth and the external area around your mouth to see if you notice any changes. But self-diagnosis is not recommended for any type of health issue.
Just as an example, infections around wisdom teeth require prompt attention from your dentist. Any sudden gum-bleeding, any unusual growths or change in the texture or color of tissue inside the mouth or on the lips, or any ulcers or white patches that pop up should send you to your dentist. They may be signs of a serious problem, whether it be localized or systemic. Gum inflammation, as another example, may respond to an improved regimen of brushing, flossing and gum massage at home. But if it doesn’t improve within a few days, see your dentist. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to deciding whether you need the attention of a medical or dental professional.
If you, your family, or friends need dental care, we would be honored to provide you with state-of-the-art dental care in our modern dental practice. Refer someone you love to someone you trust!
